    Description

AR Qanhari Dirham of Amir Umar of the Habbarid Dynasty
The Habbarids ruled Sind from the 9th to the 11th century. The region of Sind lies in the modern day regions of South Punjab and Sindh in Pakistan. The Qanhari dirhams also known as the Dammas were mostly struck principally at the cities of Multan, al-Mansura and al-Mahfuza.
    Legends on the coin:
    Obv:
B'Allah Yathiqu Umar wa bihi yantasir
    Rev:
    Muhammad Rasul Allah
    Translation:
    (Obv:)
In Allah Trusts Umar and (through Allah) is victorious
    (Rev:)
Muhammad (is the) messenger of Allah
This is an early issue of Umar bin Abd al-Aziz al-Habbari, the founder of the Habbarid dyansty. Usually, Umar's name is also cited on the last line of the reverse, however this early issue only has "Muhammad Rasul Allah" on the reverse, like the preceding Abbassid governor issues from Sind. This is Fishman and Todd HS3 and Album-4527.
